That is what I did this morning.

I saddled up. I got in my car and made the trek out to beautiful Lynden to meet Steph, James and Maddie on their family horse farm.

I'm so happy I did!

They are a such a beautiful family!!! They have acheived so much in such a short time. They are both young very accomplished, happily married and parents to the absolutely adorable and and bubbly Madelaine.

James loves his family...you can just see it in his eyes. Steph is a mom. a patient, caring and calm spirit. Maddie is a dancer. and a calm spirit like her momma.

Thank you for inviting me to spend this morning with you. I enjoyed it. so much!

I was going through an old closet a few weeks ago and I came across a caricature that was drawn of Christopher and I back in 2007...

I remember we had it done at Canada's Wonderland and the artist drew it so quickly...I mean super fast, right before a storm decided to dump a massive amount of rain on us!

I remember the moment...and I love that.

We were just dating...it was fun and cute...and when I saw what he had drawn I loved it!!

Nostalgia...that is what pictures are all about, right?!

I decided to have it framed...and I can't wait to hang it up in our new house:)

My niece had her first dance recital a couple weeks ago at the Capital Theatre in Port Hope. She did such a great job!!!

complete and utter cuteness, soft skin, big bright eyes, innocence, fully dependent, new, fresh and so completely 100% without a doubt lovable...

babies.

When I'm around them I get that feeling...like I need to have one. If she would fit in my purse I would have quietly put her there and left for home...lol...or traded her for my camera.

Let me tell you, Lilly made me want to have a baby. now.

She is so adorable and so loved by her wonderful parents David and Veronica!

Mom's Day...

I often find myself thinking about my mom and how she is such an important part of my life and who I am...she is a part of my soul.

She went through the agonizing pain of giving birth to me, nurturing me, loving me, spoiling me, laughing with me, crying with me, yelling at me, cheering me on, giving me advice, watching me make mistakes, teaching me...the list is endless. She has been there for my brother, my sister and I every single day of our lives.

You can see the love a mother has for her children in her eyes...and I'm sure I will never fully understand the intensity of that love until I have my own children.

I love my mom.

A high school friend of mine contacted me because he wanted to surprise his mom with a photoshoot for mother's day.

The Clark's love each other SO much...and it's obvious!!!!!

Elaine, Bud, Matt & Sarah, thank you for spending time with me. It was so nice getting you know you and your family:)

My Comfy Clothes...

After reading todays essay in Simple Abundance (by Sarah Ban Breathnach...go and get it, it's great), I was left contemplating comfy clothes all day today.

Everyone has that piece of clothing that can be categorized as "comfy". In my experience, these pieces of clothing tend to be old torn up pajama pants (my fav), an oversized sweatshirt, a t-shirt that has been washed so many times it's paper thin and has too many holes to count, etc.

We all have them. And cannot bear to part with them.

We love our comfy clothes because...

They fit just right.

We can relax and be ourselves.

They do not poke, pinch, pull, choke, itch and irritate us.

And most importantly, they can never be replaced.

Then I got to thinking, there is one person in my life who shares all the same qualities as my comfy clothes and more...this is what my comfy clothes look like:)

Spring is here. Summer is coming. At least that's what I have been telling myself these last few very rainy days!

Oh Canada, I love you. I just hate your very long and cold winters.

I get excited for Spring and Summer. It just smells different outside. The smell of fresh flowers, the lake, sunscreen, bbq's. *sigh*

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the weather man will bring us mostly sunny days this Summer;)

A Post A Day...hmmmm

I know it's important to keep my blog fresh...so, a new goal that I am setting for myself is to try my best to do a post a day! I know it's going to be hard, but it's a goal and I'm going to do it!

I also want to get my camera out every day!!!!!!!

As I mentioned in my previous post...I want to make lots of pots. I am mastering my manual mode skills (as per Kamee, my camera is never moving from M!...NEVER) and I wanted to experiment with the light coming in from the patio doors...

These pics are straight out of the camera (SOOC)...

Anyone who knows me, knows that this comes with me EVERYWHERE!!! I never leave home without my Klean Kanteen.

I've blogged about this company before, but just received some new business cards and I love them! http://us.moo.com/en/ is a really cool website for creative professionals. Their packaging is fantastic too, which gets me every time!

Here's to making POTS...

So I went out and made some pots today...

I took my puppy for a walk...down to the lake in Whitby, where our new house will be built:) Today was the per. fect. day for a strole along the beach.

I couldn't stop thinking about an analogy Kamee June made during her workshop. It was about making clay pots...in short, the point of the analogy was to experiment, to make pots...make as many pots as you can until you get that perfect pot...that is how we learn!

Today, I tried to play with the light a bit (make some pots) on my walk along the beach with Sophie. Here is the result...Happy Monday;)

Well....I arrived home a few short hours ago from Phoenix Arizona.

Let me just tell you...if you have a passion for photography, you MUST go to a Kamee June workshop!!!!!

Not only is Kamee one of the sweetest people I have EVER met...she truly has a gift for what she does.

I spent the entire day with her and 20 other brilliant ladies who all share a passion for taking pictures.

I think one of the most important things I took home from the entire workshop was to really focus on the human experience...to capture the present moment in order to re-create the human experience. Priceless.

Kamee...thank you for your willingness to share one of your loves with us. It was such a pleasure learning from you...I enjoyed every single minute of it!! I was so warmly welcomed to Phoenix and I truly feel like I have made some very special friends:)

I am so NOT spontaneous....but, today I got a taste of the spontaneous bug!

Everyday I log into bloglines to read my daily blog subscriptions. Most of my subscriptions are to wedding, lifestyle and portrait photographers, a majority of which seem to live in California.

There are a select few that I really enjoy reading...I get really excited when I see they have posted something on their blog because each and every time they post it is FANTASTIC! One of these people is Kamee June, from Kamee June Photography.

She is an outstanding photographer and a brilliant writer! I have been following her work for quite some time now and I have seen how she has successfully developed her business over a very short period of time.

She is now conducting photography workshops and I am completely stoked to be attending her ARIZONA WORKSHOP!!! A full day kickin' it with Kamee June and networking with a bunch of other creative and passionate people:)

This is going to be such a great learning experience!!!! I know I will be coming back with some invaluable knowledge and MAGNIFICENT PICTURES!!!!!!!

Another birthday!!!!! My goodness...I think after 22 the birthdays seem to come faster and faster every year! And it is exactly that reason that my birthday always makes me really contemplate the last year of my life. What I have done or haven't done, who I have met, things I have accomplished or not, things I want to do etc. etc.

In my previous blog, I wrote about a really great book that I purchased titled "Simple Abundance" by Srah Ban Breathnach. I wanted to post the essay for today because I really like it...and it reminds me to live life, take risks, and enjoy every moment!

An Artist is Someone Who Creates

Most of us feel more secure when we play it safe. We wear a string of pearls, for example, instead of the hand-painted glass beads we glimpsed and passed up at the crafts fair. Yet it is precisely those red and purple glass beads around the neck of another woman that stop us dead in our tracks. "Wow", we mumble as we pass her on the street, "that looks fantastic". We also wonder how she knew it would.
She probably didn't. She probably just took a leap in the dark and trusted her instincts. She trusted her own sense of style. The necklace whispered, "Try me!" and she listened. She played at living -- in s small way to be sure, but relevant all the same-- by taking a chance.
Every day we are given chances to embrace the new. It could be serving focaccia at dinner tonight instead of garlic bread. It could be choosing a pair of floral socks that make our feet want to dance, instead of the plain pair we automatically reach for. It could be trading in the headband for a short, sleek sophisticated cut that really feels right.
Psychologist Susan Jeffers suggests, we "take a risk a day-- one small or bold stroke that makes you feel great once you have done it". Today, take a real risk that can change your life: start thinking of yourself as an artist and your life as a work-in-progress. Works-in-progress are never perfect. But, changes can be made to the rough draft during rewrites. Another colour can be added to the canvas. The film can be tightended during editing. Art evolves. So does life. Art is never stagnant. Neither is life. The beautiful, authentic life you are creating for yourself and those you love is your art. It's the highest art. "Since you are like no other being ever created since the beginning of time, you are incomparable", writer Brenda Ueland reminds you.

It's been a while...

I know it's been a while since I have been on the blog....very bad, I know!

I am making a promise to myself to stay more active and post a lot more...even if it is just random rambling...

Today I wanted to chat about a few things that I am very excited about:

1) I went to Chapters earlier this year looking for a book that contained an inspirational quote for every day of the year and I found something even better! I came across this book by Sarah Ban Breathnach titled "Simple Abundance". Let me tell you that is exactly what it is! It contains a mini essay (approx 1 page) for every day of the year and in it Sarah outlines the journey to living a life of simple abundance and extracting our authentic selves. I absolutely LOVE to start my day reading each passage!!!!! Go and get it:)

2) A second thing I want to talk about is how out of my skin excited I am to put a new photography resource I have to use. For Chrsitmas, I received one of the best gifts ever...the POSEBOOK, by the boudoir divas. I really want to get more into boudoir photography and this book is a must have in order to do that. It is jammed packed with a ton of tips and hints for posing clients for boudoir photography. I hope to put it to use soon and show you what an amazing resource it really is:)

3) Found another great resource for renting all kinds of photography equipment - this way I can really experiment and see what is worth purchasing and what isn't.

4) Purchased some fun new props for some shoots coming up from a great website. The website is kinda like ebay but is full of all handmade items....www.etsy.com

A Diva Night

Last night I was honoured to be asked to photograph a United Way event.

The event was named the "Diamond Diva" evening and it was presented by the United Way.

A ton of women, vendors and community members contributed to the success of this event and it was a ton of fun capturing the details of the night.

I'm just about to leave for work...so here are just a couple pics to give ya a sneak peak of night...

The last month...

I know it has been a while since I have really made a large contribution to the blog lately. There are a few reasons for this...

1) WE WERE PLANNING OUR WEDDING - WoW!!!! Wedding planning can be so very hectic especially when you have a tendency to be an organized control freak. This entire summer was all about saving our every last penny and to-do lists! I can't tell you how many to-do lists I have made this year. There are soooo many little things that have to be taken care of when planning a wedding. Also, there was a jack and jill, 2 bachelorette parties, a shower and a rehearsal dinner before the big day. All of which were absolutely FANTASTIC...I have the bestest family and friends!

2) GOT MARRIED!!!!!!!!! - On August 15th my most favourite person in this world and I said "I DO":) We couldn't have asked for a better day. I think it was one of the hottest days of the entire summer. Everything went so perfectly...really truly perfectly! We got ready in the morning, the ceremony took place at our church, then we took off to our University campus (University of Toronto Scarborough Campus) to take pictures, headed back to the reception where guests mingled, had some yummy dinner, enjoyed our MARIACHI BAND!! and partied the night away! IT WAS FANTASTIC!!!!!!

3) WENT ON OUR HONEYMOON - to the most amazing resort on the island of ARUBA!!!!! We stayed at the RIU PALACE ARUBA. Such a great resort, great people and beautiful island. We rented a jeep and toured the entire island on our own...all in just a few hours. The weather was perfect the entire time and we finally had a chance to just relax, enjoy each others company and not worry about anything that we had "to-do".

4) LAUNCHED MY OFFICIAL WEBSITE - We returned home to go immediately back to work and reality:( To be honest, it's nice to get back to the daily grind! I started working on getting website up asap....and I did. I officially launched the terri kate photography website (http://terrikatephotography.com). I love the website and it has so many tools that my business and I can really grow into. Please check it out and let me know what you think under the contact section. Im super pumped for the shoots that I have coming up and can't wait to share them with you on the website!!!!

That has been my life over the past month in a nutshell:):):)

Engagement Shoot #2....

Christopher and I had the opportunity to head out for a 2nd engagement photo shoot with our wedding photographer Dan Deveau. I really like his work and style! You can see more of his work at www.lifeinaflash.ca

We decided to go for a more dressy type of shoot since our first one was a bit more causal. That being said, we headed to Toronto in mid day...parked the car...and made our way through the city.........on foot (in heels)! I have 3 blisters to prove it!

I'm overjoyed with how the sneak peek has turned out and I am just itching to see the rest of the images.

I also got to ride the subway for the first time:O Yeeeppp!!! My first time! lol

I'm really starting to get some great ideas for downtown photo shoots and can't wait to get some more under my belt.

Everyone meet my new car....

My car has been "on the verge" for the last year.

I love her and she has been so great to me over the last 7 years!!!!!! She has been sick for a while and I just hope she can slug it out for the next 4-5 months....keepin' my fingers crossed.

Anyhow, Christopher and I went out last night for some good ole test driving and I have found MY NEW CAR!!!!!! (I feel so bad for saying it with such excitement...like I am betraying my good ole girl). Change is hard....but good and I will never forget how great my current car has been to me.

So...

My new car (I didn't buy it yet) is awesome!!!! I love him already! However, he is just a baby. Only been on the market for 2 weeks. Hence, lease interest rates are RIDICULOUS!!!! Kinda works out well right now because it gives me a little time to save....get married...and charish my last moments with old faithful!

He is such a great concept car for my business and I am determined to make him mine.......

Anyone who knows me knows that I am a super organized/planner/perfectionist. Hence, the whole concept of editing takes me forever until I get a pic just the way I like it.

When it comes to photography I really want to stick to an organized post processing strategy...in order to keep myself sane and build up some excitement for the client. In order to do this I hope to post one or two processed images immediately following a shoot to give the client a sneak peak shortly followed by a larger posting with several superbly edited images.

Sooooooooo, I am in the midst of editing Ms. Stephanie's photo shoot and have absolutely fallen in love with a pic that I have to post. I am not waiting until all the pics are edited, I'm posting it now cause I love it:)

I need to learn some patience.....it's on the list!

I spent Mother's Day with my mom, the bestest mom in the whole wide world;)

We drove to Cobourg, Colborne & Brighton checking out a bunch of Antique and thrift stores just for fun.

Me + Mom + shopping = bad idea!!!

We got a little excited every time we stepped foot into a new store. I absolutely love checking out antiques and vintage pieces.....I get sooo many great ideas, especially for my photography!

Here is just one of the many little things I picked up for a whopping $10!!! Can't wait to use it in an upcoming photo shoot:)

The weather man said today would be sunny and 22 degrees! He lied!

Today was warm...however, it was cloudy with showers:(

Even though the weather was not what I expected, I took my niece and nephew out for a mini photo shoot. We didn't get too much time since the rain would come and go. They were a little antsy and the wind was cold, but they were great little models:)I love these cutie patootie's!!!!!!!

It's officialy time to introduce the newest addition to the family, my new and muchly anticipated sidekick......CANON 40D!!!!

I finally purchased my first DSLR and it couldn't have found itself a better home! I feel like I need to give her a name...yes, she is female! I will have to work with her a little more, get more of a feel for her personality before she gets her name:)

Anyhow I figured like any new and proud parent...I would post a pic of the new addition. So here is a single shot taken with my handy point and shoot.

I have been learning so many new things lately....I feel sooooooooo extremely overloaded with information. It is an overwhelming but very exciting feeling!

I just wish that there were more hours in the day!! I get so excited about learning and experimenting with all things photography that I end up staying up really late....then having to wake up early and go to the job that brings in the paycheque.......for now anyways;).

For those of you who regularly visit my blog you may notice that there have been a couple small changes to the blog. Nothing major, just making a couple adjustments so that I can post bigger and better pictures:):):)

I know that the pictures I have been posting lately are a little repetitive....however, it is because I have been spending my time experimenting so much with editing.

But I PROMISE, in the coming months I will have new, fresh and exciting pictures to share.

So here is some old, BUT newly edited and larger shots! So much happier that I can load larger pics to the blog....much easier to see the details! Enjoy:)

Inspirations....

I am getting super excited for this Summer...

a) because I'm getting MARRIED:O

and

b) because I am going to have the most fantastic time taking pictures in the sunny weather!

I have had soooooooooo many ideas floating around in my head about where I can shoot, how I can shoot, with whom I can shoot, who I can shoot, what I can use to shoot with, etc. etc. the list is never-ending....and I love all the little ideas that come into my mind!

Here are a few words that I use to describe my photography style......fun, funky, retro, relaxed (for sure), flirty, creative (no doubt), fresh, clean, etc. I could go on, but I will stop there.

I have been seraching for some really cool stuff/inspiration to use during my shoots.

I subscribe to a few blogs....and after checking out the latest blog post from one of my favourite blog's I am sooo emotional!!!! It may have to do with the few drinks I had tonight with friends however, it literally brought tears to my eyes.lol

Mom's are so special!!!!! I Took my mom to the Don Valley Brickworks in Toronto to take some pictures. Christopher and I had our engagements shots done there and I thought it would be nice to go back and take some pics of my own.

I cannot believe what I have just created. For someone who is not technology savvy I am so damn proud of my fantabulous-ness!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Long Time No Post...

I know it has been a long time since I have posted anything...my apologies. However, I have been trying to busy myself learning:):)

I am becoming a little bit more familiar with photoshop actions, layers and layer masks...all thanks to the wonderful world of google!!

I have also been trying to re-design a "logo" or "watermark" that I can place on all of my images (rather than the very basic and boring one that I have been using thus far).

I have come up with 2 designs that I love. I think that they really capture the essence of my creative style!!! I chose 2 designs because I wanted a certain style for the everyday lifestyle part of the business (family, pets, etc.) and a similar but slightly more elegant style for the wedding/engagement side of the business. Keep in mind that I didn't want them to be too dramatically different, just a slight difference.

I am posting both of desings here and would really appreciate some feedback...let me know what you all think!

I know I know...there was no Foto Friday posted this week. I am feeling A LOT restricted with the editing program that I am working with. Like I mentioned in previous posts, I am also feeling very restless/excited/impatient/constrained, etc.

I think that I need to outline a list of my goal priorities (which I will post later)....kinda like 101 things to do in 1001 days, but totally directed towards my photography hobby and developing it into a full time business.

Today, I am introducing you to my future brother-in-law! Mr. Joseph Darwiche is a handsome young man (yes...he is 7), and I am super excited that in August I get to call him my little brother!

I get to referee sibling wrestling matches!!

Christmas is over...the snow piles are huge and dirty...the sun is hiding...it's dark at 4:30pm...it has been soooooo cold outside, etc. etc. etc.

Need I say more?

I need that warm soothing feeling of the sun on my skin...getting into a boiling hot car...birds chirping...the smell of sunscreen...9:00pm sunsets...bbq'ing. etc. etc. etc.

I'm craving summer......I neeeeeeed it!!!

Okay, I will fully admit my wrong-doings...I completely, totally and honestly forgot to post a foto for this weeks foto friday! I whole heartedly apologize for this thoughtless mistake.

I think that this mishap may have something to do with my restlessness. Why am I so restless???? I have been researching and learning a few things about photography here and there. I am soooooooooooo anxious to purchase a new camera and really get into editing with photoshop. I am so verrrry excited to experiment with the numerous resources that I have come across. Dress Shopping Day...

My wedding party and I set out today on a mission to find some bridemaid's dresses.

Mission Accomplished!!!!

I have the most fantabulous group of ladies in my bridal party who made the whole "could be train wreck" day into a perfectly smooth disasterless day!!

We made it to 3 bridal stores...some of which were packed with a few bridezilla's and their matron of horrors!!! Oh my goodness.

I'm so lucky!!! We all came to a consensus and I must say I think we made a great choice!! Thank you ladies for your efforts, enthusiasm, time and honest opinions...Love you guys! Seven more months......:P

Road Trip...

Just got back a few hours ago from a short road trip to Ottawa. Chris and I drove out yesterday, did a little sight seeing and spent the night.

We had a chance to go on a tour at the Royal Canadian Mint which was pretty interesting...while we were there we got to hold a 28lbs GOLD BAR!!!!!!!!! But, there were NO PICTURES ALLOWED:(

It was nice to get away from the everyday...even if it was only a short time.

Anyone who knows me knows that I loooooove love love dogs!!!!

There is something about a dogs personality that is just so forgiving...they seem to love you no matter what. You can ignore them, push them away, yell at them, etc. and they will continue to love you to pieces!

I'm a sucker for dogs...period!

Taking pictures of families with their pets is something that I will definetely be incorporating into my business...pets are a part of the family!!!!

Foto Friday No. 4...

HAPPPPPY BOXING DAY!!!

I hope that Santa was great to everyone...and I'm sure there are many of you out there taking advantage of the AMAZING boxing day deals today. Speaking of boxing day deals...there are soooooooooo many great sales out there for DSLR cameras. However, I am doing my best not to pay any attention to them (it's hard, but I'm trying!)...since my goals for the next year are to establish my foundation in terms of software and hardware for my photography business, and save for my wedding;) Next year I am taking FULL advantage of the camera sales on boxing day:)

Yesterday as I was driving home after enjoying a little bit of Christmas day with Chris and his family, the sun was setting. The sunset looked absolutely spectacular and I had to pull over and take a picture, of course:) What a beautiful sunset on a beautiful day!

Foto Friday Numero Tres...

For all of you who do not know...my fiance Chistopher is from Barquisimeto, Venezuela.

Although his immediate family is here in Canada, the holidays tend to be a tough time for him as most of his family and childhood friends live in Venezuela. I cannot imagine what it feels like to pick up and leave your home country and the family, friends and culture that you are accustomed to.

Fortunately, we had the opportunity to go to Venezuela last year. I am so happy we were able to make that trip and I feel so priviledged to have met all of his family and friends. The culture and people are absolutely amazing!!!!!! I felt like I had been a part of his family forever. What an opportunity to meet the family, visit his childhood home, and experience the culture of the most important person in my life! It definetely won't be long until we make that trip again:)

Tonight was our annual girls x-mas potluck/gift exchange!! Loads of food, laughs, conversations, gossip, and gifts.

As promised...I am posting not one but two shots for today's foto friday:)

I must admit, I am really anxious to purchase my first DSLR camera. I have been doing a little bit of reserach and speaking with different people in my attempt to find the perfect camera!

I am also really anxious to start shooting pictures of people rather than nature and things. Don't get me wrong, I love taking shots of everything in my own creative way, but I am excited to get some people pictures under my belt:)

Today, I took a drive to the water in Pickering. Despite the freeeeezing cold weather I was able to get some nice shots. I also thought a lot today about my upcoming wedding, I can't believe it's coming up so soon (Aug 15.09)!!!! Eeeeekk...so much to do still, but I can't wait! Weddings are definetely going to be an important part of my business!

I hope to take some fun outdoor shots of my niece and nephew this weekend! Stay tuned:)

Friends...

One of the things I love to do is catch up with friends over an appetizer and a few drinks. I had an opportunity to do that last night with one of my dearest friends Becca.

There is something to say for those few very close friends that you always feel comfortable around. Those friends that just pick up right where you left off...despite how long it has been since you last saw each other. Becca is one of those friends...thanks for being such a fantabulous person Becca!

Shadow Girl...

Last month was a fairly hard month. Our family dog became very sick and we unfortunately had to make that decision to put her to sleep. Shadow was the only dog our family had ever had...so we had never been through this experience before. I think it was one of the hardest things we had to do as a family. Shadow was almost 12years old and was such a huge part of our lives. It is such an adjustment getting used to life without her here. Hearing her walking on the wood floor, snoring or barking at us to go outside are just a few of things we miss about her. She was such a great dog and gave so much to us as a family! We are so grateful to have had her as part of our family.....miss you Shadow girl!! xoxo

A Little Country in the City...

I had the opportunity to take some great outside shots today. My mom wanted to go for a drive to find some twigs and greenery in order to make her beautiful Christmas pots this year. I decided to tag along with her and bring my handy point shoot. Wow...I am sure happy I did!!!! We drove just a little north of Ajax and I was able to take some fantastic shots.

I love the city, but I adore the country. I love how I can just go for a little drive and feel like I am in the heart of the country. There is something very relaxing about the simplicity of country life.

I have also come to the conclusion that photoshop and I need a little more time (perhaps a course or two) to figure out our differences. In the meantime, I came across a pretty funky (and free) photo editing program called PICNIK. I was able to play around with the program a little bit. Take a peak at a few of the shots from today.
